| After losing security deposit in last polls, Gousia dives in LS battle | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr 23- After counterfeiting her security deposit in last assembly elections, Gousia Bashir, has once again taken a plunge into poll battle to highlight the problems facing the women and the poor. Gousia, 27, an independent candidate who was first among the three candidates to file nomination for the north Kashmir segment, says she was not discouraged by the loss and would continue to fight for the women and the poor. Gousia Bashir, who contested the last year’s assembly election from Bandipora as an independent, could only garner 633 votes, accounting for meager 1.27 percent in high turnout voting of 57.07 percent for the segment. “I want to contest polls to highlight the problems faced by fellow women and the poor,” Gousia said and adding “There would be big wigs in fray but my heart says that people will vote for me,”. The parliamentary constituency goes to polls on May 13 in the last round of the on-going five phased elections and according to political pundits, the constituency could be either won by three of the bigwigs likely to contest the polls. The three candidates include ruling National Conference candidate Sharief-udin Shariq, Peoples Democratic Party candidate Dilawar Ahmad Mir and Sajjad Lone, chairman of a faction of Peoples Conference who broke away from separatist ranks as ‘part of his strategy’.
