| 40,000 people enjoy Gondola ride, State earns Rs 1.27 cr in first quarter | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr 23- At least forty thousand people have taken joy ride in the Gondola cable car in the famous Gulmarg valley of North Kashmir generating revenue of more than one crore rupees for the state exchequer in the first three months. Reports said that more than 40,000 domestic and foreign tourists visited the Jammu and Kashmir State Cable Car Corporation (JKSCCC) run Gondola generating revenue of Rs. 1.27 crore from January to March 31 this year. The first phase of the ropeway, joint project of the state government, French firm Poma Glaski, constructions and RITES Ltd., New Delhi, was started in 1998, connecting Gulmarg to Kongdoori. Seven years later, the ropeway was extended to 2.65 kms, connecting Kongdoori Valley at 10,000 ft with Afarwat. The second phase was inaugurated on May 28, 2005 by former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed. The ropeway, which has 80 cabins, will have 40 more cabins by the end of the next month and can ferry about 1500 visitors to and fro the Kongdoori and Afarwat peak every hour, sources told Press Bureau of India.
