EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 23- Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma Thursday reviewed the progress made and various issues related to the formulation of comprehensive Drug policy for the State, adding that drug policy was imperative for ensuring better health care in the State. Speaking at a high-level meeting of the Health department here today, the Minister said that the opinion sought from the drug policy experts from across the country during the recently held seminars in the State can serve as the extensive information pool for our policy makers. Cost-effective life-saving and essential drugs as comprehended in the Drug Policy will serve as a boon for the State in the years to come, he added. Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dullo, Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Director, Family Welfare, Dr. Kulbhushan Pandotra, Director ISM, Dr. Abdul Kabir, Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh and Director, Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Muzaffar, Administrator, GMC, Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria and Medical Superintendent, GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Wasim Qureshi participated in the meeting. Sharma, stressing on greater transparency in procurement of essential drugs, equipments and other medical supplies, said that a separate procurement wing need to be set up for looking at the procurement matters. This, he said would enable the different institutional heads to focus on their respective duties rather than getting entangled in the purchases of supplies, adding that the step would also streamline the health services available for the people.
