Which is more dangerous?

JAMMU, APR 23: The world’s largest democracy is nowadays facing two main threats, one naxalism and other is terrorism. Both naxalism and terrorism are like a two sides of a coin, believing in violence, blood-shed, extortion, killings etc. Terrorism which has been considered as global threat which India is a victim from the last two decades and still facing it. It was in the year 1989, when terrorism showed its ugly face in Kashmir valley, when lakhs of people have been forced to leave their native home and many were killed ruthlessly. After that mass exodus terrorism almost engulfed entire country and mostly in North-West parts of India. Incidents like attack on Mumbai in recent time, train blasts in Mumbai, Parliament attack, Srinagar Legislative Assembly, Akshardham Temple, (Gujrat), Chittisinghpora in Kashmir, Jaipur blasts, Delhi blasts, and many many more…., Around 4 to 5 lakh security forces have been stationed in J&K including Army, B.S.F., C.R.P.F, I.T.B.P., besides local police.
All these forces are giving duties in guarding borders, LOC and for internal security.
The another problem of naxalism is engulfing the states like Bihar, Orrisa, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and some parts of Maharashtra. The naxals have appeared to be more dangerous than terror outfits working in J&K etc. Naxals who came in hundreds attacking vital stations and run away after causing extensive damages to men and material.
So far, thousands of people have been killed by Naxals and recently at least 17 people were killed as cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) which seeks to carry out an agrarian based revolution, targeted polling officials and security personals across the insurgency hit states in first phase of parliamentary elections.
The naxal problem is getting more dangerous than terrorism. Early Times correspondent talked to cross-section of people on terrorism and Naxalism and sought their view about which is more dangerous.
Sunita Bangotra, a teacher by profession said that, Earlier it used to be terrorism which has created havoc in many parts of country especially in our state and are facing it from the last twenty years. But when we see what naxals are doing in other parts, I think naxalism is more dangerous and should be tackled with iron hand. B.L. Bhat, a retired government officer, said that in my view both terrorism sponsored by Pakistan backed ISI and Naxalism, backed by Maoists and equally dangerous for the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
Terrorism is being recognized now as an International menace particularly after 9/11 on twin towers in U.S.A.
Osama Bin Laden, the chief of Al-Qaeda is being considered as most wanted terrorist declared by international community is still not being trapped. On the other hand, naxal problem is more dangerous in India. Prof. A.K. Sadhu, retired H.O.D. of economics deptt. Jammu university is of the opinion that naxalism backed by Maoists is becoming more dangerous for the country as day to day it is spreading its tentacles across the country and we witnessed the violence by naxals on first phase of polling and today also, on second phase of polling, several trucks have been burnt, EVM’s destroyed and a train was also hijacked. Government must take tough measures to halt their unlawful activities otherwise it will be too late.
