Paddy MSP hike big relief for farmers, says Kavinder
5/31/2025 10:06:20 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 31: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has welcomed the Central Government's decision to hike the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy for the upcoming Kharif marketing season 2025-26. Terming it a "big relief" for farmers, he hailed the move as a bold and pro-farmer step by the Modi government aimed at strengthening the agricultural economy.
Notably, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a 3% increase in the MSP of paddy, taking it to Rs 2,369 per quintal.
In a press release issued here today, the senior BJP leader said the decision would provide much-needed support to lakhs of farmers across the country, especially in states like Jammu & Kashmir where paddy is a staple crop and a key source of livelihood for many rural households.
"This timely decision ensures that our farmers get fair and remunerative prices for their hard work. It is yet another example of the Modi government's dedication to doubling farmers' income and making agriculture more sustainable," he said, adding that the move aligns with the government's 2018-19 Union Budget announcement of fixing MSPs at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.
Kavinder also praised the wider initiative of raising MSPs for 14 Kharif crops, stating that it reflects the Centre's comprehensive approach to uplifting all sections of the farming community. He expressed confidence that such reforms would lead to greater rural prosperity, increased purchasing power, and overall economic growth.
"The message is clear-this government stands with our Annadatas. By ensuring better prices, the Centre is reinforcing its vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, with the farmer at the heart of our growth story," he said.
