R.S Pura, June 1: The Faculty of Dairy Technology, SKUAST-J celebrated the “World Milk Day” at R.S. Pura campus today on June 1, 2025. This day is celebrated to highlight the importance of milk as a global food. This year, the theme of World Milk Day was “Let’s Celebrate the Power of Dairy”. The occasion was graced by Prof. (Dr) B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu as Chief Guest. He highlighted the importance of milk in improving livelihood of small and marginal farmers, esp. women. He also appreciated the role of cooperatives in improving the organised setup in dairy sector and enhancing the economy of farmers. Further, he laid stress on the infrastructure development, improvement of quality standards and free trade tariffs for enhancing export in this sector. Prof. Tripathi also laid emphasis on breed improvement, optimizing feed-cost ratio, improvement in animal health, environmental sustainability and value addition for improving the future of dairy sector. Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science and A.H. addressed the students by highlighting the crucial role of veterinarians in development of livestock and dairy sector.
The event started with the formal welcome by Dr. J.S. Soodan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology. He highlighted the role of dairy sector in improving livelihood, nutritional security and economy of the country. Dr Sunil Kumar, Professor and Head, Dairy Technology gave the keynote address on the occasion of World Milk Day, emphasising the importance of milk as a complete food and its role in alleviation of malnutrition and poverty.
To raise awareness among students, poster-making and milk product competitions were organized wherein students of Dairy Technology and Veterinary Sciences participated and the winners were felicitated with awards and merit certificates. The event was facilitated by Dr. Punit Chaudhary, Head, KVK, R.S. Pura. Anchoring for the event was done by Dr. Jasleen Kour and other faculty members of Dairy Technology Dr. Banashree Nasker, Mr. Chetan Jasrotia, Dr. Alka Parmar and Dr. Ameeta Salaria also participated, along with senior faculty members from Veterinary Sciences. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sabahu Noor, Assistant Professor, Dairy Technology.
