JAMMU, APRIL 24: Youth Hostels Association of India would organize a series of programmes during the current year. As per a press release issued here today, the National President Youth Hostels Association of India, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Pandit while interacting with a section of press and youth hostellers explained that after the triennial International Conference of Youth Hostels Federation at Cairo in May 2008, which was represented by him as National President and Dr. Harish K. Saxena, National Chairman of Youth Hostels Association as representatives from India, many significant steps have been taken to promote the youth hostelling movement in India. He said that during the centenary celebrations of International Youth Hostels Federation and 60th anniversary of Youth Hostels Association of India during 2009-10, many programmes of national and international importance have been planned. He explained that out of eight national programmes to be organized in India, three are being organized in Jammu and Kashmir which include, to keep river Jhelam and Dal Lake in Kashmir and river tawi and Surainsar Lake in Jammu clean, 100 motor cycle expedition from Delhi to Leh via Manali, Rohtang Pass and Keylong, Leh to Khardungla and back Leh and to Delhi via Kargil, Dras, Srinagar, Jammu and Ludhiana. He further explained that 7-day national heritage trek from Pancheri forests to Mantalai via Sankri Devta, Nathatop, Patni Top, Gauri Kund and Sudh Mahadev is being organized from May 15 to June 30,2009. He said about 2000 trekkers are expected to avail the picturesque trek through forests, high mountains and heritage sites. “We are now adding new flavour of heritage sites, wild life, geology of the earth and the star gazing by arranging their interaction with the representatives of the Archeological Survey of India at Udhampur, representatives of Wild Life at Pancheri forests, Star Grazing at Nathatop and understanding of the earth from the scholars of Geology Department of Jammu University at Patnitop”, he added.
