Jammu hoteliers rue Taliban rumours

Jammu, Apr 24: Expressing serious concern over setback received to tourism in J&K this season, due to scare created by totally fabricated reporting in the media about the presence of Taliban terrorists in Jammu, Kashmir Paryatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM) has said that after categorical denial by the army chief, Gen Deepak Kapoor about any presence of Taliban militants in any part of Jammu and Kashmir, all speculations in this regards should be set at rest.
A meeting of Mandal held here today was attended by Ravi Mahajan, chairman, Kuldeep Wahi president, Inderjeet Khajuria gen secretary, Anil Ghor, Baldev Khular and other executive members of the apex body of 24 tourism related trade organizations, demanded that the elements behind creating such scare by spreading fabricating reports, which have the potential to ruin the tourism season in Kashmir, should be identified and published for creating rumour, which go against the interests of return of peace in the state and hit the economy.
JPVM further said that the interests of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh in the sphere of tourism are inter-related. Any set back to tourism in Kashmir valley and Ladakh is bound to have its adverse affect on the economy of Jammu. The organization demanded that the government should take concrete measures and launch a concerted drive to counter the negative impact of scare created through these imaginary reports. It also requested the media to exercise restrain and not give currency to unverified and speculative reports about development in the field of terrorism. The media should on the other hand be quite active to counter any such rumours.
