| Panthers Party demands re-polling at two stations | | |
Jammu, Apr 24- As the moderate poll in Udhampur Parliamentary constituency came to an end on Thursday, the Panthers Party has demanded re-polling at two polling stations alleging that the alternative identity proofs of electors were not honoured by the presiding officers. Panthers Party in a statement said that most of the voters did not cast their vote at polling Booth No. 1 and 2 (Kotla) of the Udhampur constituency due to presiding officer’s objection on the production of identity proofs other than the EPICs. ''People had come to cast their votes but presiding officers did not allow them and refused to honour Ration cards and driving license'' Party President Balwant Singh Mankotia said. The EPICs had not been provided to all the voters and the Election Commission had allowed electors to produce Ration cards, PAN card, driving license and passport as the alternative for identification. He alleged that presiding officer owing allegiance to the ruling coalition, did not allow smooth polling at Kotla as ninety per cent of voters of these polling booths are JKNPP supporters. “People from village Bamath and Lalanpath returned back without casting their votes, Mankotia said, asserting that these areas are five to six kilometers away from polling booths. It takes three to four hours on foot to reach the polling booths as their villages are located in the interior of hilly areas and have no road link,” the MLA said, adding that most of the people of these areas have not been issued EPICs. He also alleged discrepancies in the voters list and demanded re-polling at these two polling booths.
