| Jammu voters go sleepy in four months | | Six districts record over 25% decline in vote count | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 24- There has been an over 25 percent decline in the number of voters, turning to cast votes in seventeen assembly segments in Udhampur parliamentary constituency, in just four months of the assembly polls in November-December last year. While as Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, B. R. Sharma put the polling percentage in the Parliamentary constituency at 45 per cent, the district wise figures provided by him has the voter turnout at 43.63, which is over one percent less that what was recorded in 2004 polls. While the seventeen assembly segments, spread over six district of Jammu region, recorded a polling of 69.53 percent in last year’s assembly, only 43.63 percent people turned to ballots on Thursday. Among the 17 constituencies, Banihal has registered a major decline of over 34 percent in polling. It had recorded 67.29 percent voting in assembly polls while only 33 percent polled in the latest voting. Similarly Kishtwar which recorded 55 per cent in Parliamentary polls had registered a whopping 74.46 percent, indicating 19.46 decline in four months. In assembly elections, Inderwal recorded 72.73 in assembly election while in Lok Sahba only 42 percent of the voters turned to cast their franchise. Doda in Assembly polls recorded 73.04 while in parliamentary elections it registered just 33 percent. Similarly the Bhaderwah which registered 65.29 in last assembly election recorded just 57 per cent in yesterday polling. The Ramban constituency saw 33.50 voters in Lok Sabha polls while it had recorded poll percentage of 64.55 percent. Gulabgarh recorded 46 percent in Lok Sabha polls, while it had recorded 77.55 per cent in assembly election. Against the whopping turn out of 73.55 per cent in assembly election, Reasi segment recorded 42 percent in the Parliament polls yesterday Gool-Arnas recorded 45 in Lok Sabha while it registered 76.70 in assembly polls. Udhampur registered 41 percent voting in Parliament polls while in assembly polls it had recorded 68.05 percent voting. Chenani in Lok Sabha polls registered 41 percent while in polls last year it had recorded 57.1 percent voting. Similarly, Ramnagar registered 37 per cent in Lok Sabha while it had registered 64.47 percent in assembly election just four months back. Bani recorded 45 per cent turn out in Parliament election against 74.46 per cent in Assembly election while Basohli which had registered 69.39 per cent in law election recorded 55 percent polling in Parliament election. Kathua which saw 54 percent voters in Lok Sabha had registered voting of 67.22 percent. Billawar recorded 47 in parliamentary polls while in assembly elections it had registered 71.39 percent and Hiranagar recorded 53 per cent voter turn out in yesterday polls while in last year it saw 64.66 percent turnout. The voting percentage in 20 Assembly constituencies of Jammu region which formed part of Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, also recorded a drastic decline of 24.5 per cent. Twenty Assembly segments forming part of Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat had recorded a whopping poll percentage of 73.5 in the Assembly elections. However, during the Parliamentary poll in first phase on April 16, the percentage in these seats came down to just 49, a huge decline of 24.5 per cent
