| Parshuram Jayanti celebrated with gaiety and fervor | | Impressive Shobha Yatra taken out in city | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 25: On the eve of Parshuram Jayanti, an impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out today in the city of temples with religious fervour and enthusiasm. Thousands of Jammuites witnessed the amalgamation of culture, history and religious rituals of Dogras at an impressive Shoba Yatra taken out through the Bazaars of the old city by the Bhagwan Shri Parhuram Janamutsav Shobha Yatra Samiti.on the occasion of Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti this afternoon. The bazaars were beautifully decorated by the respective bazaar association and voluntarily offered sweet drinks and eatables to the processionists all along the way yatra passes. The people standing along the yatra route were entertained by the school children who were in colourful dresses. They were supported by the cultural troupes especially invited from different parts of the country. The sound of top band parties of Jammu and Delhi echoed through the lanes and bazaars of the old city. It was like a mela for the young children dressed in colourful new clothes and they followed the yatra throughout while enjoying the eatables offered to them. The religious procession, comprising of a variety of tableaux, passed through all main bazars of the old city amidst drum beats and tunes of bands. People accorded rousing reception to the Yatra to show their respect towards Bhagwan Parshuram who was sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The procession took off from Radio station Panjtirthi, Dhounthaly Bazar, Chowk Chabutra Mubarak Mandi, Jain Bazar, Link Road, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Raghunath Bazar, Karan Market, Indira Chowk and Shalamar, and culminated at panjtirthi Elaborate security arrangements had been made enroute the procession and vehicular traffic was diverted for smooth passage of the Yatra. A well decorated elephant and persons riding on the back of horses with saffron flags in their hands, were leading the procession. It was followed by impressive tableaux depicting various scenes associated with the mythological life of Bhagwan Parshuram. The procession was accorded reception by businessmen associations and other organisations at various points enroute. They had also erected stalls for offering water and cold drinks to the participants of Shobha Yatra. Shopkeepers and people, who were standing on both sides of the route, were seen tossing coins towards the tableaux and showering petals on the procession. Besides office bearers of samiti , people from all walks of life took part in the procession. A number of people from rural areas in Jammu, had arrived specially for their participation in the religious programme. Groups of school children were also accompanying the procession. The purpose of holding Shobha Yatra purely was to revive the diminishing rich Dogra culture taking into mind the religion, said the member member Bhagwan Shri Parhuram Janamutsav Shobha Yatra Samiti. "Through this yatra an attempt has been made to exhibit different cultures of the country on one platform for Jammuites whose new generations were forgetting their rich old cultural heritage and fast surrendering themselves to the Western culture", he said adding, "furthermore its was also to make Parshuram Jayanti samaroh like that of Ganesh Chaturthi, the way Maharashtrians celebrate it in a big way". This annual Shobha yatra will also help in the promotion of tourism and business in Jammu by way of people’s long stay in the city of temples during the week long celebrations of Parshuram Jayanti, he continued. Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha is planning to spread the message along the country in the times to come with regard to celebrations of Purshuram Jayanti .
