| Sharma urges Govt to pay compensation to farmers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 25: Chairman, all J&K Kissan Union Ashok Sharma has urged upon the state government to pay adequate compensation to the farmers of R.S.Pura whose crops got damaged due to frequent fires during the last 15 days in the area. Expressing sympathies with the farmers ex MLC, Ashok Sharma has urged upon the state government to take necessary steps to ensure the arrangement of fire extinguishers in different areas of sub-tropical zone. Sharma, also emphasized that special teams of power development department be rushed to the area for setting right the power supply lines as most of the electric conductors are found hanging cause sparking leading spontaneous ignition of fire in the wheat crop. He also retreated the demand of crop and cattle insurance on the government expense. He criticized those at the helms of affairs for no conceding to the demand, for last over two decades, causing sufferings and irreparable loss to the farming community in the absence of crop and cattle insurance. Page 2/3 Deputation of college teachers association call on Director higher Education Jammu, Apr 25 A deputation of college teachers association led by its president Dr. Sanjay Verma called on Director college for higher Education and apprised him about the implementation of UGC sixth pay commission recommendation. He said the recommendations of the UGC sixth pay commission has to be implemented by the State Govt. as per the guidelines of UGC subject to the condition that entire scheme of revision of pay scales, together with all the conditions to be laid down by the UGC. They impressed upon the Director to implement the UGC Sixth Pay Commission in Toto by way of regulation and service conditions as according to fifth pay commission report there was no mention regarding age about according to sixth pay commission it is obligatory for the state govt. to implement the scheme along with the enhancement of age and creation of professors posts. The delegation also apprised him that state govt. has to bear only 20% of the pay hikes as UGC will pay 80% of the total amount involved. The financial implications involved for the State Govt are tentatively to the tune of Rs. 125 Crores for the period of 1-1-206 to 31-03-2010, out of which 80% shall be borne by the UGC, and as such the liability of the state govt. will be a meager Rs. 5 Crore per year. The delegation also included Dr. Sunil Gupta, Prof. Satinder Kour, Prof. Hans Raj, Dr. Anil Ganjoo & Prof. Vishal Sharma.
