Joint Director Horticulture visits RS Pura | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 10: Joint Director Horticulture Jammu, Gul Syed today inspected Govt. Mega fruit Plant Nursery Chakroi, R.S. Pura Jammu. During his visit, he inspected all the ongoing time bound activities of the nursery and made a comprehensive analysis of mother blocks of elite cultivars of Mango, Citrus, Guava, Apple Ber, Dragon fruit etc. He gave on spot instructions to the concerned officers and officials to strictly follow all the time bound operations. He emphasized on the selection of suitable rootstock and best quality bud wood for the production of fruit plants suitable for high density plantation so that they can be made available to the farmers at Govt. subsidized rates. This will serve as a platform for boosting the Horticulture sector in Jammu division. Joint Director also inspected protected cultivation structures viz Hi- tech structures, Insect proof net structures, screen houses and asked the officers to utilize the available rootstock of Citrus for propagation. purpose. He laid emphasis on production of good quality citrus plants of different cultivars with special focus on lime plants owing to its high demand. He stressed upon the introduction of latest Horticulture technologies in the nursery which will not only ease the execution of all nursery operations but will also save time and labour. He asked the officers to develop this farm on scientific lines so that it could become a role model unit for other farmers who want to establish their own nursery/farm. He also interacted with the trainees who are acquiring one year training program in the nursery and asked them to show their active participation in this learning programme and acquire all the practical skills which will help them in disseminating the latest technology to the farmers. Since majority of people living in the adjoining area of the nursery are engaged in dairy farming, Joint Director asked the concerned officers to utilize this organic waste for making organic manure on large scale by establishing vermicompost unit which will not only fulfil the nutrient requirement of nursery stock but will also generate income both in public as well as in private sector. District Horticulture Officer Jammu, S Perminder Singh, Manager Cum Chemist Sh. Sunil Mahnori, District Horticulture Officer Sh.Abhinav Gupta, Subject Matter Specialist Entomology, Sh. Zia Ur Rashid and Horticulture Development Officer Sh. Pardeep Dingra were present during the visit. |
