| Sharma for improved, extensive medicare facilities in rural areas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 25- While expressing satisfaction over improvement in health delivery system in the state, the Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma Sharma directed all the heads of district hospitals to strictly monitor the referral system and ensure that only critical cases were referred to Government Medical College Jammu, as all district hospitals are adequately equipped to handle routine cases. He specifically asked for upgrading the Gynae facilities in these institutions to curtail rush of patients in GMC, Jammu. Referring to improving the working conditions of the medical staff, he said that some reforms are in the pipeline, which included amendment of rules, timely conduct of DPCs and creation of more posts to remove stagnation in different cadres. He said that orientation programs for doctors would be conducted to handle the administrative matters with efficacy. He asked the doctors to make judicious use of funds generated through hospitals revenues. He has expressed satisfaction that health sector is moving towards right direction and instructions issued from time to time are giving dividends on ground. Terming the medical as noblest profession that handles the ailing community, he said that doctors and para-medicos have to make themselves more accountable to deliver on ground. The Minister was addressing the doctors while reviewing the functioning of health sector in Jammu division, here today. Commissioner/Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, Director Family Welfare, Dr. Kulbushan Pandotra, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chief Medical Officers and heads of various health institutions of Jammu division were present in the meeting Referring to medicare facilities available in the rural areas, the Minister said that doctors should voluntary opt to serve in rural areas instead of focusing on urban hubs, because rural areas have multiple problems. He said that, in future, the government would ensure in its health policy that every fresh doctor serves in rural area during his/her first tenure. He called for improving and extending medicare facilities in the rural areas, especially those which are devoid of these as yet.
