| Mufti: Secure J&K by development, not arms | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Anantnag, Apr 25- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said Jammu and Kashmir now needs security through economic development and not through arms. “What is important is the security of the people not just of territory,” he said. Addressing public meetings in Noorabad and Kulgam assembly segments of the Anantnag parliamentary constituency today, Sayeed said the economic security of the people of Jammu and Kashmir has to move to the centre-stage with thrust on social security, income security, job security, environment security and the security of individuals and communities. “The attainment of territorial security has to be linked more and more with human security,” he said. The PDP Patron said the Government should redefine the objectives of the State’s economic policy to design a strategy for sustainable growth and employment generation. He said Jammu and Kashmir must have full control over the use of its water and mineral resources and the State must be adequately compensated for the huge recurring losses suffered by it not only because of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) but also the arbitrary exploitation of our water resources by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC). Sayeed said the problem of unemployment especially among the educated youth is a matter of grave concern and needs immediate attention. He said in Jammu and Kashmir, the educated youth are mostly eyeing the government jobs as the sectors outside the government have just not flourished, because of the lopsided policies. “PDP believes that the youth of the state have the right to seek meaningful employment, participation in decision-making that affects their lives, and protection from socio-economic and political exploitation,” he said and added that the party would strive towards realizing this objective for the State’s emancipated young population, who have done us pride in every field. PDP leaders Abdul Aziz Zargar, Peer Mohammad Hussain and Nazir Ahmad Laway also addressed the meetings.
