| Trauma care centres to come up along NH | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 25- As part of the Government plan to strength the health care system facilities in Jammu and Kashmir more than 21 primary health centers and half a dozen other health institutions were being completed by July. The state Government has approached the Centre for financial and technical assistance for setting up two new 400-bed maternity hospitals, one each at Srinagar and Jammu. This decision follows reports on congestion of the two existing maternity hospitals in the state forcing women patients to seek admission in private nursing homes where they have to meet heavy expenses. The state Government, according to official sources, has requested the centre for financial assistance for setting up new trauma care centres at seven hospitals along the national highway. The need for setting up these trauma care centres had been felt after the reports suggested upward curve in the number of road accidents. Besides, this number of people injured in road accidents and in militancy related violence need immediate care in such centres. And for improving the referral transport facility the state Government has decided to add 125 ambulances in the health services. These ambulances will be pressed into service for bringing patients in the remote rural areas to the urban belts for speedy treatment. Official sources said that tele-medicine equipments at six hospitals in the state were being upgraded in coordination with ISRO and these equipments will be operational within next three months. In order to ensure availability of essential drugs a new drug policy, suitable to the requirement of the state, was being formulated in consultation with all the stakeholders. Source said that during the last seven years the state has witnessed phenomenal progress in the health care system. It was bound to witness further up gradation with the completion of super specialty hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu.
