| Darbar shifting begins | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 25: Over 50 vehicles of the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) were today pressed into service for carrying civil secretariat staffs and officials record in the summer capital Srinagar as annual Darbar moved from here, official sources said here. ''Fifty-two buses of the SRTC and two ambulances of the State Health Department will carry employees and official record from Jammu to Srinagar,'' officials said, adding nearly 10,000 government employees would shift to the Valley for next six months. However, tight security arrangements were made all along the 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway for successful and incident-free Darbar Move, police sources said. The sources further said traffic on the National Highway from today to April 27 would be one sided as no vehicle from Srinagar would be allowed to move towards Jammu during the 'Darbar Move'. The offices would reopen at Srinagar on May 4. The 135-year-old traditions of the Darbar move is stated to be an age-old practice since 'Maharajas' time under which the government functions six months each in the summer capital Srinagar and the winter capital Jammu.
