Early Times Report

Akhnoor, June 15: A vibrant and deeply spiritual celebration of the traditional Dogri festival Tamdeh (Ashad Sankranti) was held with great fervor in Jayanti village of Targwal Panchayat, Akhnoor. The festival, organized by the Baral Brahmin community, saw hundreds of devotees gather at the revered Bua Dati temple to participate in age-old rituals and festivities.
The day began with sacred havan-yagya and traditional worship, followed by the devotional Chowki of Bua Dati, which turned the temple premises into a center of spiritual devotion. A special community feast (bhandara) was organized in the afternoon, where the locally cherished sweet dish Meethi Siyaan was served — a symbolic delicacy of this sacred occasion.
Marking the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival, local MLA Mohan Lal visited the shrine and offered prayers. Interacting with the devotees, he assured them that ongoing developmental issues concerning electricity, water, and road infrastructure would be addressed on a priority basis.
Several dignitaries including former Sarpanch Prashant Sharma, Tilak Raj Sharma, Manga Ram Sharma, Bantu Sharma, Balli Sharma, Narottam Sharma, Surinder Singh, Naresh Sharma, Anil Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, Suman Singh, Rohit Kumar, Ayush Singh, Gagan Gupta, Vishal, Vinay, and Abhishek were present during the celebration.
