Jammu Police solves chain snatching case

Jammu, June 15: On June 4, 2025, a shocking chain snatching incident occurred in Durga Nagar, Chinore, causing fear and concern among local residents. Two unidentified individuals on a scooty brazenly snatched a gold chain worth lakhs from a woman while she was waiting for her children near a school bus stop. The accused also brandished a sharp-edged weapon (toka) to intimidate the victim before fleeing.
To avoid detection, the suspects wore helmets and had deliberately removed the scooty’s number plate. The scooty was later found abandoned in an isolated location in Janipur.
Acting swiftly, SP Rural Jammu Sh. Brijesh Sharma JKPS formed a dedicated investigation team led by SDPO Domana, SHO Domana, and the In-Charge Police Post (ICPP) Chinore. Under close supervision, the team conducted a comprehensive investigation, analyzing footage from over 300-400 CCTV cameras and utilizing technical intelligence.
Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of two accused:-
1. Ajit Sharma, S/O Tirth Ram, R/O Janipur Disco Road
2. Sahil Khan, S/O Khurshid Ahmed, R/O Kamini Market, Nagrota
Following their arrest, the team recovered the gold chain worth lakhs and the weapon (toka) used in the crime. Additionally, two vehicles involved in the incident were seized.
1) Scooty (Reg. No. JK02BM 4397)reportedly stolen from the Jurisdiction of PS Janipur.
2) Auto (Reg.No.JK02DP 6417) used during the commission of the crime.
Moreover, with regard to the public parade, it is clarified that both the accused were taken for recovery and other legal formalities.
The successful resolution of the case in a short span has been widely appreciated by the local community.
Residents have lauded the Jammu Police for their commitment, professionalism, and swift action, which have helped restore public confidence.
