| Milestone: MH conducts stem cell transplantations | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26- The 166 Military Hospital Jammu achieved yet another milestone when it conducted several eye surgeries by stem cell transplantation using highly advanced technique of biological adhesive agent. It has carried out such transplantation on eight cases recently. All the eight cases had stem cell deficiency leading to a large disfiguring conjunctival growth on cornea resulting in a gross diminution of vision. The patients underwent an advanced surgical procedure in which stem cells harvested from a healthy area were glued on the diseased area after removal of the growth using a special biological adhesive agent. This highly advanced adhesive agent is prepared from clotting factors of blood under special conditions and forms a fresh sticky clot which is used to glue the stem cell graft on the diseased area. The glue also prevents any bleeding from the wound site by forming a clot. It is not required to be removed and dissolves on its own once its effect is over. It does not contain any harmful chemicals which could damage the stem cell population. No stitches are required to fix the graft in place so the patient does not have to face any discomfort due to stitches. This special adhesive agent costs Rs 2500 This advanced facility has been made available at 166 Military Hospital for all the entitled patients due to persistent, untiring efforts of Brig KR Salgotra Commandant 166 Military Hospital, towards excellence in patient care.
