Capacity Building Programme of FPO's commences

JAMMU, June 23: A five days "Capacity Building Programme for Chief Executive Officers and Chairman/Board of Directors of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPO's) across J&K" commences on 23-06-2025 at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu. The programme is jointly organized by SKUAST, Jammu and Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Jammu in collaboration with MANAGE-Hyderabad in the Division of Agricultural Extension Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Chatha from 23-27, June 2025. The capacity building programme has been organized under HADP-20 project entitled "Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agriculture in Jammu & Kashmir".
Prof. Anil Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture/Registrar, SKUAST- Jammu, chief guest of the function stressed upon the technical problems being faced by the CEO's and BOD's for the formation of FPO's in their respective areas and suggested for sharing their problems/experiences with MANAGE faculty. He also stressed for the upliftment of small and marginal farmers, increase in landholding of the farmers. He addresses the challenges faced by CEO's and farmers, proposed practical solution, spoke about soil conservation and ways to conserve natural resources, highlighted the importance of biodiversity and ethical practices and emphasized the promotion of local agriculture products.
Prof. Vinod Gupta, Professor & Head Division of Agricultural Extension Education and PI of the project highlighted the importance of this training programme with reforms to farming community. He also stated that capacity building of CEO's and BOD's will definitely help the FPO members to focus on their business activities. He addressed the challenges faced by the FPO's and explained how CEO's and Board of Directors (BOD's) can overcome these challenges. He also shared his personal experience while working with FPO's, motivated the trainees, spoke about personality development, emphasize the importance of educating CEO's and BOD's on how effectively encourage farmers to connect with FPO's. So that the farmers of J&K can benefit from these efforts.
During the training programme, Sh. Sanjeev Rathore, Company Secretary and experienced faculty and resource persons from MANAGE, Hyderabad will provide training on the topic: Registration of FPO's, Institutional system & policies, Key features of best performing FPO, Introduction to collective action, Introduction to FPO's, Market scan and business model canvas to the participants. Mr. Vansh Gupta, Young Professional formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. The training programme was attended by 35 CEO's and BOD's of FPO's across J&K.
The inaugural function was attended by Prof. L. K. Sharma, Prof. Poonam Parihar, Prof. J. S. Manhas, staff members and project staff. At the end vote of thanks was extended by Ms. Rohini Mishra.
