NSF celebrates 117th birth anniversary of Sucheta Kripalani | | | early times report
JAMMU, June 25: National Secular Forum (NSF), University Unit organized a program in University Campus, and on the Birth anniversary of Sucheta Kripalani who laid her life for the country. A programme in this connection was organized wherein Ankush Abrol Provincial Joint Secretary JKNC and Former Member BCCI was the chief guest while, Dr. Vikas Sharma Coordinator Jammu District and Zonal Secretary JKNC was the guest of honour and Sh TR Sharma (Retd KAS) presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion Ankush Abrol threw light on the life history of Sucheta Kripalani and appreciated the efforts of NSF and appealed to the youth to come forward to eliminate all evils from the society. He said that Sucheta Kripalani was an Indian independence movement activist and a Member of the Indian parliament. Kripalani actively participated in the Indian independence movement in the 1940s. That included her involvement in the 1942 Quit India movement- she evaded arrest from the Government, although she was eventually arrested in 1944 and was detained for a year. On this occasion, Dr. Vikas Sharma said that June 25 is the birth anniversary of Sucheta Kripalani, India’s first woman Chief Minister. Kripalani, a freedom fighter who was born in 1908, served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for about three and a half years from October 2, 1963 to March 13, 1967. She then served as Lok Sabha MP until 1971. He also said that she was among the 15 women who were elected in 1946 as members of the new Indian Constituent Assembly formed to draft the Constitution of India. She was a part of the panel that presented the inaugural Indian flag to the Constituent Assembly. While Speaking TR Sharma (Retd KAS) stressed upon the youth to shun their self-centered outlook and contribute to the development of the nation. Sucheta Kripalani came to the forefront during the Quit India Movement and was arrested by the British in 1944 for her involvement. She was the first woman Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and played a significant role in India’s independence movement, embodying courage and leadership in the nation’s history. Vikshay Vashist, State Secretary NSF also addressed this occasion. Gourav Partap Singh President University Unit delivered the welcome address, Abhishek Uppal Chairman Jammu District unit was delivering the vote of thanks.
