| Manhotra demands 27 percent reservation for OBCs in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 27-Expressing concern over miserable conditions of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Jammu and Kashmir, National President of the National Bahujan Party (NBP) K K Manhotra today demanded 27 percent reservations for OBCs in the State and reservation for Schedule Caste (SCs) as per their population. Addressing a press conference here today, Manhotra pointed out that in all over the country, OBCs have been getting 27 percent reservation but in Jammu and Kashmir this weaker section of the society is getting only 2 percent reservation which is glaring example of the discrimination. He further pointed out that instead of issuing OBC certificates to the backward classes the State Government has been issuing Social Caste certificates to them which debarred them from taking reservation benefits at national level. He asked the State Government to immediately remove such discrimination otherwise NBP would launch an agitation. Taking serious note of the atrocities committed by goons of ruling National Conference on two families of OBCs in Badwal village of Gurhaslathia area of Vijaypur assembly segment, Manhotra regretted that instead of taking action against the culprits senior officers have been shielding the accused. He further regretted that matter was brought to the notice of the police higher ups but they succumbed before the pressure of the ruling party.
