KVK Reasi organises Training Programme on Natural Farming

REASI, June 25: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised training programme on natural farming here today at Kans Brahmna village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The major objective of the programme was to train the farmers on natural farming and educate them on the various practices required for natural farming.Chief Scientist Head of KVK Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal deliberated on the need of natural farming in present era and discussed in detail on the food and nutritional security. He stressed on the need to shift conventional farming to natural farming so as to safeguard biodiversity and environment. He informed that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers.He said that natural farming is beneficial for the maintenance soil health, human health and biodiversity. He guided farmers on the formulations of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Agniastra, Neemastra, Brahmastra, Panchgavya etc. and explained their uses. He also guided the participants on mulching and Wapsa (moisture) practices of natural farming. He narrated that Reasi district of J&K has an immense potential in natural farming and the farmers can generate more income by producing the safe and healthy food through natural farming. He further said that by the use of natural farming formulations farmers can minimize the cost of cultivation and increase the quality of their farm produce.He also guided farmers on various agricultural schemes/programmes undergoing in the distt. He said that for a healthy society, quality and healthy food is required and natural farming can play a significant role for the production of safe and healthy food.He discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. He stressed on climate resilient agriculture and discussed on the importance of agroadvisories.During the programme, progressive farmers of the areas Ram Lal and Bansi Lal were also present who shared their experiences on natural farming with other farmers.
