| LeT commander killed in encounter at Mendhar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr 27- Just when defence minister A K Antony was on a visit to the forward areas in Jammu division, security forces claimed to have killed a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander in a gun battle in Mendhar area of Poonch district. The reports said that on Sunday evening troops of 37 Rashtriya Rifles and members from the Special Operations Group of the police laid a cordon at Shruti top in Dorimal village in Mendhar, Poonch. Sources said that a LeT militant was trapped in the cordon finally resulting in an encounter. "After a brief exchange of fire, troops killed one LeT militant," Brig. Gurdeep Singh, brigadier general staff of 16 Corps, said. He said the identity of the militant was being established, but he is suspected to be a Pakistani. Police sources said that the militant has been identified as Abu Babar, divisional commander of the LeT. Police said that Babar was active in the area and he belongs to Pakistan. One AK Rifle, two magazines with eight rounds of ammunition was recovered from the possession of the slain terrorist.
