Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, met Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), and expressed serious concern over the poor condition of roads across Jammu, particularly in rural and border areas. Tony specifically flagged the deplorable state of roads in Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, highlighting the danger posed by widespread potholes, especially to two-wheeler riders. He urged the department to address the issue before the onset of monsoon, warning that continued neglect could lead to severe accidents. With the Amarnath Yatra set to begin shortly, Tony said the influx of pilgrims offers a unique opportunity. "These Yatris are not just devotees but also potential tourism ambassadors. If they are met with good roads and clean surroundings, they will return with a positive impression of Jammu & Kashmir, boosting its image and tourism prospects," he emphasized. Poor infrastructure, on the other hand, could tarnish the region's reputation, he cautioned. Responding to Tony's concerns, the Chief Engineer directed XEn Rahat Gupta, AEE Vikram Singh, and other officials to start urgent repair works. He stressed that potholes must be filled on priority, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall. "If not repaired in time, these potholes will become death traps-especially with the Meteorological Department predicting heavy rains," Tony warned. Reiterating the need for safe and reliable infrastructure, he added, "People of Jammu cannot be made to suffer due to official apathy. Swift and efficient action is the need of the hour." The Chief Engineer assured that repair work would begin immediately, with special focus on Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar and adjoining areas. The deputation accompanying Tony included Capt. Ghar Singh, Ajit Singh, S. Harvinder Singh, S. Harpal Singh, S. Parminder Singh, Adeep Singh, Mr. Jagdev Singh, Rissam Medicos, Utsav General Store, S. Inderjeet Singh, S. Ajeet Singh (Retd.
