Dr Bhatia Honoured by Army for Gallant Service | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, June 28: In one of the most courageous responses by a civilian officer during a military operation, Dr. (Prof.) Bhatia, Principal of Government Medical College Rajouri, has been honoured by the top Army command in Rajouri for his exceptional courage and leadership during Operation Sindhoor - a critical period marked by intense cross-border shelling. On the early morning of May 10 at 5:15 AM, when fear and uncertainty gripped Rajouri town amid sudden shelling from across the Line of Control, Dr. Bhatia made a life-risking decision - he drove alone for over 10 kilometers through a high-risk zone to reach GMC Hospital. While many were seeking shelter, Dr. Bhatia chose to run towards danger, determined to ensure uninterrupted patient care. Upon arrival, he took immediate command of hospital operations: crisis wards were activated, the basement was turned into a protective treatment area, and medical teams were positioned to respond 24x7. With foresight and compassion, he arranged for round-the-clock langar services for patients, their attendants, doctors, and support staff - creating a calm, resilient environment amidst chaos. Not a single life was lost under his watch - even critical patients were successfully treated and recovered. His exceptional crisis management and dedication to public service drew admiration not only from the Army, but also from the Prime Minister's Office, which officially acknowledged his gallantry. Dr. Bhatia's actions are a shining example of what true public service looks like. Officers like him - who place patients above personal safety, and lead from the front in times of terror and turmoil - are extraordinarily rare. His fearless leadership, compassion, and professionalism continue to inspire the entire medical fraternity and citizens of Rajouri. |
