Congress tampered with Constitution for Political Gains, betrayed Ambedkar's vision: Kavinder | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta today launched a scathing attack on the Congress party for its decades-long manipulation of the Constitution for political gain, asserting that the recent remarks of Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai have vindicated the BJP's historic stand on the abrogation of Article 370. Speaking at the meeting held at Party Headquarters in Jammu, the BJP stalwart hailed the CJI's statement that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was never in favour of a separate constitution for any state and had envisioned a united India governed by a single Constitution. "Congress repeatedly mocked and mutilated the Constitution to serve its dynastic interests, while Dr. Ambedkar's dream of 'One Nation, One Constitution' was cast aside by those who treated the Constitution as a private fiefdom," he said. Referring to the remarks made by CJI Gavai during the inauguration of the Constitution Preamble Park, where he stated that the Supreme Court drew inspiration from Dr. Ambedkar while upholding the abrogation of Article 370, Kavinder said it was a moment of constitutional redemption. "Justice Gavai has clearly stated that Article 370 was against the spirit of unity that Ambedkar stood for. The Congress' appeasement politics and divisive agenda have now been constitutionally exposed." Slamming the Congress for its track record, Kavinder said that during its 55 years in power, the Congress amended the Constitution 77 times, often to subvert democratic values and protect its vote banks. "In contrast, the BJP, in 16 years, has made only 22 amendments - each aimed at empowering citizens and strengthening the nation." The senior BJP leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah took the courageous step of correcting a historic blunder by abrogating Article 370, fulfilling the aspirations of millions who believed in national integration. "The era of special status and second-class citizenship is over. Now, Jammu and Kashmir is on the path of equal opportunity and inclusive development." The former Deputy Chief Minister appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the youth, to be vigilant against those who seek to tamper with the Constitution for selfish gains and stand firm in defence of Ambedkar's true legacy. |
