| CS inspects construction work of DC office complex Ramban | | Inaugurates SC Boys hostel at Udhampur | | Early Times Report Jammu, April 28 - Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur inspected the ongoing construction works of major projects in Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban district today. Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development, Mr. S. L. Bhat accompanied the Chief Secretary during his day long visit to these districts. At Ramban, Mr. Kapur inspected the construction work of DC office complex at Maitra, Ramban. He instructed the executing agency to speed up the pace of work so that it is completed within a stipulated timeframe. At Udhampur, the Chief Secretary inspected the progress of Rs.28.82 Crore drinking water supply scheme (WSS) for Udhampur town, sanctioned under UIDSSMT scheme for augmenting drinking water supply. He also visited water filtration plant at Salmay, near Udhampur and inspected its functioning. Mr. Kapoor was apprised that out of Rs.10.80 Crore released so far, Rs.9.79 Crore have been spent on execution of this project. The requirement of drinking water supply in the town was 32 Lacs gallons per day (GPD) but the present availability was 20 Lac GPD. The project was slated to be completed by the end of September, 2009 which after its commissioning, would add 16 Lac GPD thus catering drinking water needs effectively up to the year 2014. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary asked the concerned officers to prioritize the works as per the needs of the people and see that the developmental projects are completed in the prescribed period. He asked them to adopt a holistic and pragmatic approach while executing the projects of public utility and ensure that the benefits of these are maximized to transform the socio-economic condition of the people. He also asked for close coordination among the executing agencies and periodical review of the ongoing projects so that the pace of the construction and quality of material used do not get affected. Later, the Chief Secretary also inaugurated 25-bedded hostel for Boys constructed at a cost Rs.41.18 Lakh in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Udhampur for the facility of Scheduled Caste students. Mr. Kapur took round of the hostel and showed keen interest in the facilities being provided to the students by the Social Welfare Department. He issued instructions to the officers of Education Department to ensure that most deserving scheduled caste students be provided accommodation in this hostel in a transparent manner. He also called for creation of infrastructural facilities and proper maintenance of hostel building.
