Justice For Terror Victim Families | | | In a much-needed and long-overdue move, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed the security agencies to take concrete steps to address the long-ignored grievances of families whose loved ones were killed by Pakistan based terrorists. Chairing a high-level meeting, the LG not only acknowledged the pain and injustice faced by these families but also laid out a comprehensive framework to ensure accountability, reparation, and rehabilitation. For decades, countless innocent civilians in Kashmir have fallen victim to the brutal designs of Pakistan sponsored terrorism. Many of these cases, despite the gravity of the crimes, were buried under the weight of apathy and political expediency. The LG’s directive to Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to reopen such cases and ensure FIRs are filed is not just a legal order—it is a moral commitment to truth and justice. By instructing that jobs be provided to the next of kin (NoKs) of the victims on priority, the administration seeks to restore some semblance of dignity and stability to these shattered families. Another crucial directive was aimed at freeing the land and property of terror victims that were illegally grabbed by terrorists or their sympathisers. The reclaiming of such properties sends a clear message: the state will not allow terror proxies to reap the fruits of violence and impunity. It is a move to dismantle the terror ecosystem that not only thrives on fear but has also infiltrated various spheres of public life. Of particular significance is the LG’s call for identifying those complicit in the killing of innocent Kashmiris who are now working in government departments. This is a bold step, underscoring the need for administrative cleansing. It is unacceptable that individuals with blood on their hands continue to enjoy the privileges of public office. Holding them accountable is critical for restoring faith in the system. Moreover, the LG’s decision to provide financial assistance under the MUDRA scheme and offer handholding to victims’ families aspiring for self-employment reflects a compassionate and empowering approach. Economic independence can play a pivotal role in the healing process, and such measures can help families move forward while preserving the memory and sacrifice of their loved ones. The creation of a dedicated Special Cell in the LG Secretariat and another in the Chief Secretary’s office, along with a toll-free helpline, shows a strong administrative intent to institutionalize support for these families. It also opens a channel for grievance redressal, ensuring that the victim families are not left unheard anymore. Lieutenant Governor Sinha’s firm assertion that “culprits roaming free for many decades will be brought to justice” is not merely a statement—it is a promise to the people of Kashmir that the era of selective justice is coming to an end. His efforts symbolize a turning point in Jammu and Kashmir’s governance narrative—one that prioritizes justice over silence, and compassion over neglect. |
