| Div Com discusses demands of Chhamb displaced persons | | | Early Times report JAMMU, APRIL 28 - Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal here today convened a meeting of officers of Revenue Department to discuss the problems and demands of Chhamb displaced persons of 1965 rehabilitated in district Jammu, Samba and Kathua. The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner Jammu Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandhari, DDC Samba Mr. Sourabh Bhagat, Addition Development Commissioner Samba, Mr. Anil Gupta ACR Jammu, Mr. Rajinder Singh and representatives of the Chhamb Displaced Persons Association. During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner was apprised of various demands of the Association which include transfer of ownership rights on State land and transfer of occupancy/Tenancy rights on Evacuee land allotted to the DPs of 1965 from Chhamb Sector at par with the DPs of 1947 POK. They have also requested for recommendation of 4% reservation quota to the wards of Chhamb displaced persons in government jobs and other technical/educational institutions by restoring 47 village of Chhamb, Tehsil Akhnoor deleted in the year 1981. Their other demands include payment of cash compensation for the land being occupied by the defence forces, makeup of the land deficiency in allotable unit of land or in the alternative recommend the case for payment of cash compensation for the effected families. Divisional Commissioner assured that the demands of the people will be taken up with the concerned authorities and said that it will be ensured that these people are compensated for the financial and substantial loses they have suffered due to displacement. He added that there will be no discrimination in conferment of ownership rights or occupancy rights on evacuee lands allotted to the displaced persons of Chhamb and would be kept at par with the displaced persons of 1947 and 1971.
