Early Times Report JAMMU, July 4: In a continued and focused drive against illegal mining, Jammu Police has once again demonstrated its commitment to protect public resources and curb environmental exploitation. From 01 January to 30 June 2025, a total of 367 vehicles involved in illegal mining were seized across the district. Out of these, 311 vehicles were released after due legal formalities, and fines amounting to Rs 61,90,316/- were imposed on violators during this period. Among the seized vehicles, four were found to be repeat offenders, each seized for the third time for illegal mining activities. These vehicles were booked under the Mining Act U/S 4/21, and FIRs were registered under FIR Nos. 27/25, 143/25, 94/25, and 112/25. In accordance with legal provisions, the process for cancellation of registration of these vehicles has been initiated, reaffirming Jammu Police's firm stance on dealing strictly with habitual violators. These efforts are part of a larger campaign to safeguard natural resources, prevent the degradation of public lands, and dismantle the economic interests of illegal mining syndicates operating in the region. This action-oriented strategy adopted by Jammu Police sends a clear message that violations of environmental laws will not be tolerated and violators will face the full force of the law.
