MCM DAV College for Women: Shaping Champions, Setting new Milestones | | | Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, July 6: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women stands tall as a beacon of excellence in women's education and sports. With a rich legacy spanning 56 years, the college has emerged as a powerhouse in nurturing sporting talent, producing national icons and international champions who have brought glory not just to the institution, but to the nation. In a feat unmatched by any peer institution, MCM has clinched the Panjab University Women's General Efficiency Sports Shield a record 41 times- a shining testament to its sustained commitment to sporting excellence. Over the decades, the college has served as the cradle of countless sporting careers, launching stars who have dazzled at the national and global level. Among its illustrious alumnae are Tania Bhatia, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur, who have donned the Indian jersey in international cricket. While Tania and Harleen played in the Commonwealth Games and World Cup, Amanjot made her mark in the IPL and represented BCCI. The legacy reached new heights at the Paris Olympics 2024, where Raiza Dhillon represented India in Women's Skeet Shooting, further cementing MCM's global standing. In aquatic sports, Chahat Arora created a national record in the 100m breaststroke at the FINA World Swimming Championships 2022 in Melbourne. Mahit Sandhu shone on the world stage at the World Deaf Shooting Championships in Hanover, Germany, winning three gold medals and one silver. Shooter Nina Chandel represented India at the World University Games (Italy, 2019), continuing the college's tradition of international representation. The college has also carved a niche in martial arts. Ishroop Narang won bronze at the Asian Judo Championship in South Korea, while Mehal Singh bagged two gold medals at the National Judo League 2024-25. Ms. Komal added further glory with a gold medal in the All-India Inter-University Judo Championship. At the Khelo India Games 2023, MCM students made a mark of distinction- 15 out of 52 medals earned by Panjab University were secured by MCM athletes, reaffirming its position as the region's leading sports institution for women. These outstanding achievements are the result of visionary leadership and dedicated mentorship by the Department of Physical Education, under Lt. Anju Lata, and the dynamic guidance of Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma. Together, they have fostered an ecosystem where discipline, dedication, and excellence thrive.
