Jammu to go hotter, showers likely Friday

Jammu, April 28: Severe heat wave conditions have developed over the Jammu region and are expected to last for another three to four days. The heat wave conditions prevailed in many parts of the regions including Kathua, Samba, Vijaypur, Bishnah, R.S. Pura, Suchetgarh, Akhnoor, Nagrota, Chamb, Palanwala and many other places.
Keeping in view the serious effects of the heat wave people prefer to stay indoors during day time, but school gang children face the burnt of this heat. A large number of schools in the region lack basic facilities and as such parents did not allow children to attend their school.
According to Indian Meteorological department (IMD) maximum temperature has risen by two degrees Celsius during this period with compare to last year over the plains of north-west India and prediction is that temperature may rise further in days to come over Jammu region and in neighbouring country too.
Talking to Early Times correspondent, Richa Issar a house wife residing in Posh Channi Colony said that it becomes difficult to go out in market during day time for purchasing the house hold items as the mercury is rising day by day. She further said that the children, female and elderly people are facing lot of problems due to this heat wave. Nishant Kumar, a private employee said that he has to work in scorching heat as there is no alternative. He further said that if we comparing to last year temperature in the same month it is two to three degree celcius above normal and the meteorological department has predicted that the heat wave will continue for next couple of days.
Nikhil Bakshi computer professional, was of the view that as the summer season is approaching there is lot of scarcity of water and curtailment of power supply in Jammu and as a computer professional it becomes difficult to work in the absence of power.
Dr. Mahinder of SKUAST said, that heat wave condition will continue to remain on higher side till Friday, but at many places there will be some thunder showers which will bring temperature down. He said, people should take precautionary measures and avoid going out during noon, while school going should take plenty of water etc.
Dr. M.K. Khushu, chief scientist of Sher-e-Kashmir university of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) said, the day temperature is expected to rise further more, with compare to last year, which was 400C only. He said for the last three to four years temperature during this period is showing up-ward trend, while during night it comes down, even lower than normal and added if this trend continue it will have adverse effects on vegetables, crops across the Jammu region, he added.
