J&K Cine Association slams 'Hillywood' label as misleading and politically driven | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Cine Association has expressed strong opposition to the recent unauthorized naming of the Jammu film industry by certain self-proclaimed individuals, terming it a blatant violation of the rights of Jammu's genuine artists. In a meeting held today, the association reiterated that the real stakeholders of the Jammu film industry are the local artists who have nurtured it with dedication over the years. According to association president Dharminder Kohli, the attempt to rebrand the industry as "Hillywood" is not only misleading but also politically motivated. He emphasized that this name bears no cultural, geographical, or emotional relevance to Jammu and does not reflect the region's artistic legacy. Kohli alleged that a group of outsiders, under the pretext of uniting the artists, is misleading some unsuspecting members of the local fraternity to serve their own political ends. "This isn't the first time such an attempt has been made," said Kohli, recalling earlier failed efforts by the same group to manipulate the narrative around Jammu's film identity. He warned that these divisive efforts are causing discord within the artistic community and pose a threat to the region's rich composite culture and unity among artists. The association pointed out that the Jammu and Kashmir government has already recognized the film sector officially through the JK Film Policy, which led to the formation of the "Jammu and Kashmir Film Industry" as formally announced by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha in 2021. The association feels that the arbitrary naming of a separate "Hillwood" undermines the government's authority and creates unnecessary confusion. The members urged the administration to take serious note of this unauthorized act and act against those who are trying to override official policy for personal gain. They further argued that the individuals pushing the "Hillwood" label have minimal or no genuine connection to Jammu's artistic ecosystem, and many of them are outsiders with dubious intentions. "The effort is nothing but a ploy to exploit and divide Jammu's artists by offering empty promises," the association stated. They warned the local artists to stay vigilant against such manipulations and to preserve the unity and integrity of the Jammu film community. The Jammu and Kashmir Cine Association made a strong appeal to Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene promptly and protect the interests of the true artists of Jammu. They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to fostering an inclusive and authentic film culture that genuinely represents Jammu's artistic spirit. Jammu and Kashmir Cine Association members conveyed that the JKCA is the only registered organization of all film makers of Jammu and Kashmir. |
