| Sumit, Saznawaz to get Sangeet Natak Akademi Youva Award | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, 29th April : Young theatrist Sumit Sharma and Musician Shabir Saznawaz of the State have been selected for this year's Sangeet Natak Akademi Yova Ustad Bismilah Khan Award -highest National honour in the field performing arts. This is for the first time in the history of the State that two youth belongs to J&K are being conferred this prestigious Award for their extra ordinary and highly innovative contributions in the field of modern and contemporary Indian theatre and Kashmiri Sofiyana Music. Disclosing this today Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages stated that Shabir Saznawaz has been selected in Sofiyana Music while Sumit Sharma has in Direction by the high level jury constituted by the SNA and both have been chosen keeping in view their distinct and high profile contributions for the promotion and propagation of Performing Arts and regional Music in Jammu and Kashmir. Born on February 24, 1980 in Jammu district , Sumit Sharma is a young and energetic theatre director and actor who is recognized within and outside the State .. Recipient of Special Scholarship from Union Ministry of Human Resources Development New Delhi in the field of performing arts Sumit was also awarded by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and languages in acting and direction. Sumit has so for participated in 50 plays and represented the State in more than 20 National Theatre festival and is presently associated with one of the leading theatre group of State “Natrang”.He has directed more than one dozen full length and short plays for Natrang. Shabir Saznawaz is a young and energetic musician and Singer of the State. He is the son of prominent Musician of Valley Ustad Ghulam Mohammad Saznawaz. He has represented the State in and out side the country at a number of time. Prior to this State Academy and NZCC haave also awarded him for his extraordinary contribution towards Kashmiri sofiyana Music. The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh besides a "tamrapatra" and an "angavastram." .The award will be presented to them in New Delhi during next month by President of India Partibha Devi Singh Patil.
