Buffer Lobby & Waiting Lounge inaugurated in SKUAST Jammu's Library

JAMMU, July 9: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) proudly announces the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Buffer Lobby and Waiting Lounge at its Central Library, located at the Main Campus, Chatha, Jammu. The new facilities were formally inaugurated on July 9, 2025, by Prof. (Dr.) R K Samnotra University Librarian under the overall patronage of Dr. B. N. Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, along with faculty, students, and distinguished guests. Buffer Lobby and a waiting lounge has been established in the Central Library, Chatha for hassle free functioning of the circulation desk with the increase in the foot prints of Library users. This initiative aims to offer vital space for rest, study, collaboration, and socialization, enhancing the overall library experience with an overview display of library resources, facilities and achievements through electronic media and fostering a sense of community. The lounge accommodates both individual study and group work, making it an ideal place for students to collaborate on projects or catch up with friends during the waiting period.
The Central Library, a modern three-story glazed building spanning 5,382 square meters, with an Open Air Reading Area having capacilty of 40 students, has been a cornerstone of academic excellence since its establishment in 2007. These facilities are designed to support the university's mission of fostering education, research, and innovation in agricultural and allied sciences. The continuous library development is part of University's commitment towards excellence in the field of agriculture. The Central Library at SKUAST-Jammu is renowned for its extensive collection of documents in agricultural, veterinary, and allied sciences, as well as its advanced online library system providing access to e-journals under PM's ONOS, e-books, and other digital resources. The new additions further elevate its status as a hub for academic and research activities in the region.
Prof. Samnotra appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders to facilitate university students to pursue knowledge and endeavour for higher avenues of excellence and make the best use of the resources available at SKUAST-Jammu. Teaching, non-teaching staff members including Sh. Leela Dhar Mangi, Asstt. Librarian, from R S Pura, Dr. Amit Sharma, Sr. Library Asstt., Chatha, other officials from libraries also attended the inauguration ceremony.
