| PDP files another complaint with EC; alleges deployment of PSO’s for poll duty | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 29- The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has filed another complaint with the Election Commission of India alleging that the state administration is trying to hamper the process of conducting free and fair elections in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency going to polls on Thursday. Reports said that PDP candidate for Anantnag constituency Peer Mohammad Hussain has filed a complaint regarding deployment of large contingents of Special Police Officer’s (SPOs) for poll duty in Anantnag. “Jammu and Kashmir government has deployed large contingents of temporary police force, locally known as SPOs on election duty in the Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency going to polls tomorrow,” alleged the PDP leader in the complaint filed before the EC. “The State Government, reportedly, has drawn these SPOs from all the districts of the Kashmir valley to be deployed in Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency, apparently with the specific objective of using them for some particular purpose,” the complaint mentions. Hussian alleged that these SPOs are fully trained or armed to deal with any law and order situation. There seem to be some suspicious intention behind the Governments move of deploying SPOs in the Anantnag parliamentary constituency for poll duties in such large numbers, he said. “The Governments decision of deploying SPOs in such large numbers in the Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency could not be without any beneficial reason for the ruling party in the State and the move could severely hamper the conduct of free and fair polls,” adds Hussain. He said that PDP has already expressed its apprehensions regarding the intentions of the State Government and several instances of the misuse of official machinery by the Jammu and Kashmir Government have already been brought into the notice of EC. Asking the EC to review the security situation in Anantnag, Hussian demanded that the SPO’s be barred from performing any poll related duty in the district. “The latest development has strengthened our belief regarding what the State Government could be up to. I am sure that the EC would immediately review the entire security scenario in the Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency and ensure that the deployment of SPOs in the constituency for poll duties is stopped forthwith,” Hussian mentioned in the complaint. Pertinently, PDP has already filed two complaints regarding violation of election code of conduct by the ruling party and NC candidate Mustafa Kamal’s candidature being accepted for Hazralbal assembly constituency.
