| Chain snatcher gets five years RI | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 29- Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu (CJM) YP Bourney today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 5000 to accused Manohar Lal who is facing trial for the commission of offences u/s 382, 323 RPC. After hearing Chief Prosecuting Officer Pawan Khajuria with Prosecuting Officer Kuldpeep Bhat and Advocate BM Bhardwaj appearing for the accused, the CJM observed that accused is the first offender and has no previous criminal history as per the material brought on record by the prosecution. He is a young man of 24 years. At the same time the offence committed by him is daredevil act in the broad-day light which reflects his frame of mind for which he needs to be punished appropriately. In these circumstances he does not deserve to be let-off on probation. Keeping in view that the all facts and circumstances accused Manohar Lal Son of Garib Dass resident of Gole Talab Tillo Jammu is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for five years and to pay fine Rs 5000 u/s 382 RPC and further to undergone sentence for three months with a fine of Rs 1000 u/s 323 RPC. Both the sentences shall run concurrently. The Court further ordered that out of the fine amount if realized Rs 5000 shall be paid to victim as compensation. According to the prosecution story on February 5, 2002 at about 1 PM Babita Mawa was strolling in the street when accused snatched ‘Dajihoor’ as a result of which her right ear was cut. The accused was followed by the people as he tried to flee away after the incident. He was caught and later handed over to the police station Domana.
