| 619 rallies in valley, 294 in Anantnag alone | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 29- As the focus shifts to Valley after successful conduct of Parliamentary elections in Jammu and Udhampur constituencies of Jammu division in the first and second phase of five-phased Lok Sabha elections in the State, lively electioneering has been witnessed with 294 public meetings held across Anantnag constituency alone by various political parties and contesting candidates from the date of issuance of poll schedule announced by Election Commission on March 2 till campaigning ended yesterday evening. In Kashmir division, 619 election rallies have been held by various political parties and candidates, including 372 large and medium rallies. In the State as a whole, 1,570 public meetings have been held so far with 951 held in Jammu province where polling for the two seats of Jammu and Udhampur has already been held. Campaigning for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat, which came to an end yesterday, was high profile with top national and state-level leaders of various political parties addressing elections rallies. They included Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saifuddin Soz, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and former Chief Ministers, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad, besides MoS in Prime Minister’s Office, Prithviraj Chavan. In Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, out of the 294 election rallies held across 16 Assembly segments, PDP organized 134, NC 120, Congress 19, BSP, SP and ANC 4 each, BJP and LJS 3 each, LJS(P) 2, and CPI (M) 1. As many as 201 public meetings were large and medium with 129 held in Anantnag segment, 35 in Kulgam, 25 in Pulwama and 12 in Shopian. Of the total 1,570 rallies held in the State so far, Congress organized 395, PDP 313, NC 302, BJP 226, NPP 109 and BSP 47 with the rest of the political parties also organizing several public meetings. As far as Kashmir Division is concerned, of the total 619 election rallies, PDP organized 255, NC 246 and Congress 53. As far as district-wise break up of 294 rallies held so far in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency is concerned, 192 rallies were held in Anantnag, 52 in Kulgam, 36 in Pulwama and 14 in Shopian district. On the last day of campaigning in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, various big rallies and road shows were organized by various political parties and contesting candidates.
