| KP’s defy boycott call, 9972 to cast vote today | | | Sandeep Bhat Jammu, April 29:Despite boycott call by Kashmir Pandit (KP) organization Panun Kashmir (PK) for participating in Parliamentary elections, According the registration of M-form 9,972 voters have intentionally registered them selves and are expected to vote for Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency on Thursday at eleven polling stations in Jammu and one in Udhampur. Out of 31000 total voters only 9,972 voters from merely 3,455 families are entitled to vote for Anantnag Constituency. During the Assembly elections KPs had participated actively in the elections with large numbers of voters as well as the contesting candidates. But KP s showed their resentment with the procedure imposed upon them by Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the filling up of M-forms which was a hectic exercise for the community. Political parties assured the community that M-forms will be no more a compulsion to them but could not do anything even after the span of four months and KPs were forced to go with M-forms. Chairman Panun Kashmir Ajay Chrungoo termed the exercise as futile one as these election hardly matter to them because the number of voters of the community is far marginal than to that of total which is around eleven lakhs for the constituency. Panun Kashmir Convenor Agnishekhar while talking to Early Times conformed the boycott call and said that several organizations have supported the call but few vested interests working for political parties have filled M-forms at their own desecration. All Party Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) President Vinod Pandit while expressing dissatisfication with the electioneering system for the community, said that KPs have been always given step motherly treatment for exercising their franchise. He said that successive governments have failed in addressing the legitimate problems of the community in exile for the last twenty years. He added that even governments at centre as well as at State level has failed to provide basic fundamental rights. Despite several efforts to contact Chairman Panun Kashmir Movement Aswani Chrungoo for his consents regarding the matter, nothing could be done as he was out of reach. It is pertinent to mention that Chrungoo is fire brand Kashmiri Pandit leader who organized several tours across the country to create awareness about the plight of his community. Chief Election officer B. R. Sharma while talking to Early Times informed that 31000 voters are in the constituency but it is desecration of voters as to how many come out to cast their vote. He also said that all arrangements have been for smooth conduction of elections.
