| Hoteliers hail advisory committee for SASB | | | Early Times report
Jammu, Apr 30: Welcoming the constitution of Shri Amarnath Yatra Advisory Committee by the governor N.N. Vohra, in his capacity as ex-oficio chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, in which representative of trade organizations connected with tourism and pilgrimage have been nominated as members, All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has flayed the statement by Brig. Sucheit Singh, the Acting Convenor of Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti criticizing the constitution of the Advisory Committee.
A meeting of the Jammu hoteliers association, which has been fighting for long time and striving hard, along with other tourism and pilgrimage related trade organizations of both Jammu region and Kashmir valley, for the promotion of Amarnath Yatra, has particularly taken exception to Brig. Sucheit Singh’s observation that the people nominated in the Advisory Committee for Amarnath Yatra by the governor, have no locus standi and are in no way related with Shri Amarnath Yatra. His remarks betray height of arrogance as he arrogates to himself along with scme residue members of SAYSS to be the soul custodians of the affairs concerning Shri Amarnath Yatra. He recalled that the hoteliers bodies along with some religious and social organizations of Jammu had formed Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, in 2009 to fight against the obstructionist acts of the then government to promote yatra, by not allowing extension of the duration of yatra for two months. For last two decades in particular i.e. after the eruption of militancy in Kashmir, Yatra has become Jammu centric and trade bodies of Jammu have been making major contribution to promote the same.
Addressing the meeting, the President, AJHLA Inderjeet Khajuria has said that the two and a half month long agitation held in Jammu in connection with Amarnath Yatra land row, was the joint struggle of the people of Jammu who stood as one man cutting across party lines and political affiliation, to fight against the assault on the religious belief of a community as well as to hurt the economic interest of all those who earn some living from the pilgrimage. They all, including the trade organizations of Jammu were part and parcel of the movement and their connective sacrifices, with the business community in particular voluntary undergoing all suffering and losses to their business by observing complete shut down for over two months as well as liberally contributing funds for the running of agitation and providing of relief and compensation to the victims in the agitation.
