Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 16: Rang Tarang, a festival of young performers from IIM Jammu, is set to create history by showcasing the highest number of performances by a group of 128 brilliant artists in a festival of 4 days. The festival was inaugurated yesterday, with opening shows including Rehearsal written by Lakshmi Kant Vaishnav, The Dear Departed by Stanley Houghton, Andher Nagri by Bhartendu Harishchandra, and Refund by Fritz Karinthy. The shows were blessed by the presence of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of Indian Institute of Management, Jammu and Director Natrang Padmashri Balwant Thakur.
The day also featured a remarkable performance of Jagarna, a traditional Dogri folk dance, by the students of IPM Batch 4. Commenting on the performance, Balwant Thakur, Director of the Rang Tarang Festival, said, "It is amazing to see a Dogri dance being performed so brilliantly by young performers coming from different parts of India. The most astonishing part is the level of perfection they attained during their training in performing arts, guided by the experienced faculty of Natrang Jammu."
Day 2 opened with a mesmerizing Pahadi Dance, followed by four thought-provoking plays: Budhi Kaaki based on a story by Munshi Premchand, Antral Ke Baad written by Pratap Sehgal, Gadda based on a story by Krishan Chander, and Aaj Ki Aurat written by Balwant Thakur.
With the culmination of Day 2, Rang Tarang created history by presenting ten vibrant events in just two days. Each performance was so impressive that it became difficult for the audience to compare their levels of excellence, as every successive act kept them spellbound.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, appreciated the performances and congratulated Balwant Thakur for transforming young artists. He also emphasized the urgent need to include arts in the curriculum of Business Management.
