Poll staff training held in Leh

Leh: Apr 30 To make the Zonal Magistrates, Sector Magistrates and Police Sector Officers more vigilant and attentive to ensure free, fair and peaceful Elections in Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, a one day training was conducted today at Leh .
The Returning Officer, 4-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Ajeet Kumar Sahu gave a digital presentation on the role, responsibility and power of Magistrates and Sector Officers and highlighted important chapters of election guidelines to be implemented on the polling day.
During the training program, Sahu touched other crucial measures for keeping up law and order like avoiding of unlawful assemblies of five or more persons near to the polling stations, prohibition of canvassing in or near the polling station, defacement of Govt. and public properties with banners and posters, prohibition of going armed person to or near the polling stations, adjournment of poll in emergencies, admission to polling stations, role of polling agents and their seating arrangement, penalty for disorderly and misconduct in or near polling stations and other powers and obligations of Zonal and Sector Magistrates.
The Election Observer for Leh District, B. Purushartha who was also present said the function of Magistrates and Sector Officers is a statutory duty and as such, all the Government officers should carry out their duties very seriously and sincerely. He said that maintaining law and order on the polling day is very much important for free, fair and transparent elections, therefore, the Magistrates have to watchfully supervise on all implementations of election process to uphold the election model code of conduct.. Purushartha asked the Magistrates and the Sector officers to visit the polling stations of their jurisdiction well in advance to see the viability for setting up Polling booths and demonstrate the functioning of EVMs among the public also.
