SKUAST-Jammu organizes ZREAC Kharif meeting

JAMMU, July 18: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu organized a Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee (ZREAC) meeting for Kharif - 2025 for Jammu province today.
Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu in his opening remarks said that there is an urgent need to bridge the gap between farmers and scientists and the technology developed by SKUAST Jammu should reach the end users through all the line Departments. He reiterated that the recommendations and suggestions of the meeting should be fruitful in solving the problems of the farmers of Jammu region. He stressed upon proper feedback from the line departments for the identification of researchable issues. "Agriculture is now facing challenges of global warming and climate change impacts our environment, agriculture, health and economy", he reiterated. He stressed upon popularization and promotion of sustainable agriculture practices such as adoption of climate resilient varieties, shifting from chemical farming to organic and natural farming, promotion of water conservation and irrigation techniques and changes to cropping patterns. Prof. Tripathi suggested that there is need to prepare a road map of the varieties that are to be provided to the farmers in the coming years. He urged upon the scientists to provide technical support to the officers of line departments.
Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu presented the overview of the research activities of the University. During the meeting, action taken report on proceedings of ZREAC Kharif 2024 were presented by the scientists and recommendations on the basis of On-Farm Testing were also discussed. Besides, officers of the line Departments also deliberated on the issues related to research and extension. During the ZREAC meeting, a pocket dairy was released which contain important information on package and practices of crops and advisories for animal husbandry.
At the outset, Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu welcomed Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Statutory officers of the University, Directors of line Departments, Head of the Divisions of all the faculties, Head of KVK's and research stations, scientists and officers of line departments of Jammu region. He further added that today's recommendations will provide sustainable solutions for the problem faced by farmers during this Kharif Season. Proceedings of the meetings were conducted by Dr. Pawan Sharma and vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma.
