75th anniversary of NSSO celebrated in Jammu

JAMMU, July 18: National Statistics Office, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India organized an event here on Friday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of NSSO. The Regional Office Jammu organised a quiz competition Anwesha (2.0) for postgraduate and under-graduate students pursuing courses in Statistics and Economics in various Colleges/Universities across the UT of J&K. Apart from the students, the event was attended by the officers and the field staff of NSO (Field Operations Division) Jammu; Regional Office, Srinagar; Sub-Regional Office, Udhampur and Baramulla.
Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Head of the Department (Statistics), University of Jammu was the chief guest of the event which was also attended by Shri Kishore Kumar, Additional Director-General, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSP), and Shri Rajesh Kumar, Regional Passport Officer, Jammu.
In his inaugural address, Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Head of Department (Statistics), University of Jammu, highlighted the role of National Statistics Office in developing a sound Statistical database for the use by planners and policy makers, researchers and various other agencies at the National and International level.
The keynote address was presented by Shri Kishore Kumar, Additional Director General, CQCD, MoSPI, who was also a Special Guest. In his keynote address, Shri Kumar highlighted the role of NSSO in the past 75 years. He also spoke about NSO surveys currently carried out by the field officials of the NSO field staff. Shri Kumar also highlighted the coming road map of MoSPI for conducting new surveys and their importance in the Indian economy.
Shri Rajesh Kumar, Regional Passport Officer, Jammu highlighted the role of MoSPI in the policy formulation and nation building. Vote of thanks was presented by Shri R. K. Sharma, Assistant Director, NSO (FOD) RO Jammu. The welcome address was presented by Shri P. Palanivel Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Regional Office Jammu.
After the inaugural session, a Quiz competition Anwesha (2.0) was organized for the participating postgraduate and under-graduate students. Later, a cultural event was organized in collaboration with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The programme concluded with the presentation of prize money, trophies, certificates and medals to the winner, runner-up & first runner-up of the quiz competition.
