Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 18: Reflecting a compassionate and responsive approach, the District Administration Jammu, in collaboration with the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Jammu and Chief Medical Officer Jammu, has provided swift and effective relief to road accident victims under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund Rules, 2022.
In the past one month, a total of Rs 24,60,000 has been credited directly into the bank accounts of the legal heirs of deceased victims and injured persons involved in road accidents across the Jammu district. During the month, 19 death cases have been settled, with Rs 1,00,000 disbursed to each legal heir, totalling Rs 19,00,000 and 12 injured persons received compensation based on injury severity i.e Rs 75,000 for severe injuries, ?50,000 for moderate injuries and Rs 10,000 for minor injuries. In addition, 47 death cases and 19 injury cases were compensated in the past three months, underlining the administration's commitment to victim support and timely aid.
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu commended the exceptional inter-departmental coordination that led to this achievement and reaffirmed the District's dedication to upholding the rights and dignity of road accident victims.
"This initiative not only ensures immediate financial aid but also reflects the Government's resolve to stand by its citizens during moments of distress," the Deputy Commissioner said.
A significant share of credit goes to Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Transport Commissioner, J&K, Jammu whose leadership, foresight and prompt sanctioning of funds made this initiative a reality. His personal commitment to the humane cause of accident relief has been instrumental in ensuring that victims and their families receive much-needed financial support without delay.
"The Transport Commissioner's proactive approach and prioritization of victim assistance have reaffirmed the department's people-first approach," stated the RTO Jammu.
The initiative showcases how coordinated governance, empowered by legal frameworks like the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund Rules, 2022, can transform the lives of affected families, bringing hope and stability in the wake of tragedy.
