| 2300 road projects underway | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 30- The ruling coalition has given new dimensions to the road development program and so far over 2340 schemes have been sanctioned under different categories. Once these projects were completed it would upgrade the inter district road connectivity. Official sources said that 1404 road projects have been approved under the NABARD program. These schemes are to cost over Rs.2009 crores. Under the Central Road Fund 59 schemes have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs.404 crores. As many as 885 schemes, involving construction of 4773 kms of roads, have been sanctioned under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs.2222.63 crores. As part of up gradation of inter-state road connectivity the central Government has sanctioned construction of Bhaderwah-Chamba road. It will improve travel and trade between two far-flung belts in Jammu region and Himachal Pradesh. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs.73.73 crores. Official sources said that besides, building road the Government has given top priority for completion of bridges. They said that by next month 32 bridges may be completed. Sources said that attempt was being made to black top roads in the rural areas. A scheme is being taken in hand for improving the condition of roads and arteries in the Doda district so that road accidents were minimized.
