| LTTE Elimination cannot soothe Tamil aspirations | | |
KHUSHWANT S. RANIAL
No movement can be put to an end through militarily oppression. No doubt, its immediate impact could be observed for a few time but largely the silent feelings resurfaces, the moment they met with an opportunity. This is the history of the world and life has gone the same pace since the centuries together. At present, military oppression against the two hostile, dreaded militant organizations are underway in this south Asian region i.e., one is in Afghan Pak region and other in Srilanka. The targets are the same though causes are different. In Pak-Afghanistan region, the Americans are in Liaison with Pak govt. support targeting Talibans who have spearheaded reign of terror to spread shariah rule within its own terroritory as well as in Pak dominated areas like SWAT, NWFP, Baluchistan, Buner and Dire distt. away around 100 km. from Pak capital namely Islamabad. The other objective of American counter offensive policy is to ensure capture of Osama Bin Laden, master mind behind 9/11 USA attack upon her sovereignty and integrity by an outsider. On the other hand, Sri Lanka Government has launched her final assault to demolish LTTE siege over Srilanka Eastern and Southern parts of soil. In her bid to get rid of her 30 years old crises, Srilankans are in no mood to spare an iota of opportunity to let opponents led by her organization head V. Parbhakaram to escape either by the road or through sea route. In an efforts to secure victory, in both above mentioned cases are the poor, helpless citizens, who are felling prey to severe privations, distress, discomforts and Mental agony at large. The general common masses are getting victimized by the operations of Army and hostile war lords of the respective regions who are projecting themselves to be the real patrons of their class and community. But how long such an unending claim of reactions will roll is hard to predict because at this moment, nobody seems to hang their shoes immediately in the near future. Sensing the gravity of the situation and no let off mood of any compromise dialogue formulae by the Srilankan regime in power at present with LTTE cadres, at least, on this occasion, ultimately support to put pressure on Srilankan Government in halting military offensive. Keeping in view humanitarian need of the hour, USA, UK, EU, UN bodies and even India came to the rescue of LTTE in putting pressure upon Srilankan government to offer trace so that the hopeless, helpless citizens could be rendered Yeoman’s services in their safe evacuation and provision of food, shelter and medical assistance by ICRC and WHO etc. Further more, UN, under secretary John Holmes even requested the Srilankan government on behalf of UN bodies and her allies to afford space to allow humanitarian aid workers to help the fleeing tamid aggrieved citizens, But adamant attitude of Srilankans to show no signs of respite as appeared from the statement of her foreign secreatary’s remarks clearly shown the mood of the people in power to put launched operation to its logical end on this occasion. Whatever the state of Turmoil is existing in Srilanka but president Mr. Rajpakse and his team requires to take cognizance of post-conflict possible solutions as well as public views and openly held discussions, debated and collected opinions while formulating any new course of actions and goals for an ever lasting solution of the old aged ridden territorial issue, because it would be a sheer exaggeration to put an end to the desired alienation or a separate statehood or permanent identity. The sphere of internal dissensions shall never resolve, owing to the gap created due to separation of identity factor between Sinhalese in majority and Tamils in minorities. So far Srilankan president has attributed that use of military force to locate and kill Tamil rebels so as to eradicate terrorism is the suo motto right of every nation. It is something one’s personal state affairs and no external force must extend her dictation in this regard otherwise it would prove as a detrimental factor of no less than an external interference. By gauging the way, Srilankans troops have nearly made an access nearer to the LTTE’s chief’s den, not it becomes imperative to restructure political ideologue with the ill-withered incapacitated moderate secular group among Tamil scattered and disturbed populace and make an open wide offer of self rule with the greater autonomy of rights and opportunities. Here is the need of application of both wisdom and vision for permanent solution. But India has an impending threat looming over with the worsening Situation over there in Srilanka. LTTE chief V. Parbhakar will not escape to Indian but his cadres who either donot get killed or surrender shall make every bid to sneak into Indian Territories through coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala etc in the form of refugees to seek shelter. A caution needs to be applied, No doubt, coast guard and Army across these belts have been placed on monitor and surveillance, yet it will be too early to comment their possibility of sneaking into Indian territories. However guarding of one’s own frontiers will be no less then stiching in time to save the nine and Nip the evil in the bud. However Indian leaders of AIADMK Ms. Jayalalitha and DMK Supermo M. Karunanidhi’s stunt of under going fast unto death is a political stunt in this electioneering phase to seek political mileage and nothing else. But ultimately solution lies in the courtyard of Srilankan regime who has to ultimately cat the bell for securing a peaceful atmosphere.
