| High on charts, low in deed | | Health care craving for attention | | Early Times Report Jammu: The promises of providing better facilities of health care by successive governments speaks its volumes when one comes to know that instead of six CT-scan machines required in Government Medical college (GMC), not even a single is installed. Incidentally one installed remains most of the times non functional causing discontent to the patients and their attendants. Not only this but according to official records 699 Primary Health Centers, Aid Centers and sub Centers are lodged in private houses on rented basis instead in government hospital buildings. Out of ten district hospitals only six have TB Centers besides 15 mobile medical aid centers are roaming without necessary equipments. Going by the counting 30 sub district hospitals and two general hospitals across the region are working on the footsteps of single provincial hospital (GMC), which is unfortunately not in a position to provide services to patients because of its poor infrastructure, shortage of staff, non-availability diagnostic equipments and increasing unprecedented number of patients day by day. Authorities at the helm of affairs have desperately failed to formulate to deal with the increasing rush of patients with existing man power and infrastructure as big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata doctors are rendering their duties in shifts to deal with rush of patients though the hospitals there are fully equipped. Serving final notice to Block Medical Officer (BMO) Bishnah for his absentees on Thursday Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma asked him to decide whether he wants to pay his duties at Bishnah or at some other far flung area where there is no patients, because during minister’s two previous visits BMO was not present on duty. Sharma after holding meeting with BMOs, CMOs, and Director Health Services Dr. Jasbir Singh informed that he has decided to take meeting of all the concerned officials on the second Saturday of the every month to take stock of the situation. He said that those doctors who work dedicatedly will be rewarded and will be given incentives besides those who don’t work properly would have to face the axe. He said that doctors, BMOs, CMOs have been asked to decide within five days as to what they are going to do. He said strict steps will be taken in future to ensure smooth functioning in the hospitals across the state.
